Global Warming Is A Human Rights Issue, by Mary Shaw, mary@maryshawonline.com published in Countercurrents.org
The U.S. -- with about five percent of the world's population -- remains the world's chief polluter, generating 25 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions. And the Bush administration continues to stonewall, lest new emissions regulations should inconvenience his corporate cronies. |

Global Justice for all life on the planet
by Germain Dufour, with the Global Community
The Global Community Global Justice Movement has many inter-related components: monetary, social, economic, environmental, democracy, and peace. The Global Community Global Justice Movement
promotes new thinking to benefit all economies and societies – the true, fair, democratic and efficient solution to poverty. The Global Community has the productive resources to eliminate poverty and
injustice. Humanity is now in the process of developing the democratic and transparent communications infrastructure which can bring this about.
Our approach transcends left-wing/right-wing designations. We see both conventional capitalism and socialism as being two arms of a philosophy which concentrate power in an elite, to the detriment of society
as a whole. Reforming the current money system, to empower each and every person, is a first step for justice. |

Deforestation: The Hidden Cause Of Global Warming , by Daniel Howden ,
The Independent Countercurrents.org
The accelerating destruction of the rainforests that form a precious cooling band around the Earth's equator, is now being recognised as one of the main causes of climate change. Carbon emissions from deforestation far outstrip damage caused by planes and automobiles and factories.
The rampant slashing and burning of tropical forests is second only to the energy sector as a source of greenhouses gases according to report published today by the Oxford-based Global Canopy Programme, an alliance of leading rainforest scientists. |

A Predator Becomes More Dangerous When Wounded, by Noam Chomsky, with The Guardian, and published in Countercurrents.org
For the US, the primary issue in the Middle East has been, and remains, effective control of its unparalleled energy resources.
A US attack on Iran would effectively launch WWIII. The US invasion of Iraq virtually instructed Iran to develop a nuclear deterrent. The message was that the US attacks at will, as long as the target is defenceless.
Then again, a predator becomes even more dangerous, and less predictable, when wounded. In desperation to salvage something, the Bush administration might risk even
greater disasters. It has created an unimaginable catastrophe in Iraq. It has been unable to establish a reliable client state within, and cannot withdraw without facing the possible loss of control of the Middle East's energy resources.

Losing Focus: Peace And Justice Movement In Britain At Crossroad, by Ramzy Baroud, author of The Second Palestinian Intifada: A Chronology of a People’s Struggle published in Countercurrents.org
I believe that the action of a true peace and justice activist must stem from concern for humanity, not from racism and prejudice; however, to suppress freedom of expression, settle personal grievances at the expense of a most colorful and ideologically diverse movement, thus the honorable cause it stands for,
is to do an immense disservice to all of us concerned with bringing to a halt a most bloody and raging conflict in the Middle East. |

Is the Deadly Crash of Our Civilization Inevitable?
An interview with author Thomas Homer-Dixon about the social, political, economic and technological crises we face and how long we can sustain the lifestyle that brought them about. , by Terrence McNally, http://www.alternet.org/authors/5358/, published in AlterNet: The Mix is the Message
It's unlikely that the future is going to be a linear extrapolation of the present, but I've pretty well arrived at the conclusion that the diversity and power of the stresses that we're encountering are going to cause some major volatility. I expect social, political, economic and technological crises and breakdowns. It's hard to say what they're going to look like, but the probability of some major problems developing is rising.
