The Central & Eastern Europe Partnerships Program: the Development of Sustainable Models

The countries in transition in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) are posed to enter the new millennium while struggling with diverse milieus and varying degrees of economic progress and social and political change.
The Central & Eastern Europe Partnerships Program promotes the involvement of a wide range of participants from all sectors - Canadian and CEE institutions, private organizations, non-governmental organizations, professionals, businesses and communities.

Introduction

The countries in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) are poised to enter the new millennium while struggling with diverse milieus and varying degree of economic progress and social and political change.

The Canadian International Development Agency's Partnerships for Tomorrow Program (PTP) is designed to enhance the democratic and economic reform process now underway in the countries of the CEE region. The PTP is a travel-funding mechanism which allows Canadians and the people of the CEE region to strengthen partnerships and linkages. The key objectives of the PTP are:

* the development of sustainable models for effective interaction and linkage between technical institutions and industry;

* the promotion of Canadian trade and investment links with countries in the CEE region;

* the facilitation of Canadian involvement, trade relationships and visibility in the region over the long-term; and

* the sustainability and replication of the project initiatives.

Scope

The PTP will support new and on-going partnerships between Canadians and CEE participants to enhance institutional and professional capacities in the CEE countries, improve Canadian expertise and knowledge of the region and expand cross-cultural communication and trade networks. It will also promote the involvement of a wide range of participants from all sectors - Canadian and CEE institutions, private organizations, non-governmental organizations, professionals, businesses and communities.
