Global Warming Is A Human Rights Issue, by Mary Shaw, mary@maryshawonline.com published in Countercurrents.org
The U.S. -- with about five percent of the world's population -- remains the world's chief polluter, generating 25 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions. And the Bush administration continues to stonewall, lest new emissions regulations should inconvenience his corporate cronies. |

Global Warming: driving governments to take action , by John Bunzl – ISPO Founder, Trustee and Coordinator,
jbunzl@simpol.org
Simpol promotes the Simultaneous Policy (SP), which aims to deliver social justice around the world, resolve global problems like environmental destruction and regulate the economic power of international capital for the good of all. Simpol seeks solutions to problems that individual national governments cannot resolve by acting alone.
Global warming is now at the top of the political agenda. But why aren't governments taking the necessary action?
Because any nation legislating to curb the emissions of its industries will make its economy "uncompetitive" with other countries, thus risking investment and jobs moving elsewhere. |

One Billion To Be Displaced By 2050 , by Agence France Presse,
Countercurrents.org
At least one billion people risk fleeing their homes over the next four decades because of conflicts and natural disasters that will worsen with global warming, a relief agency warned Monday.
In a report, British-based Christian Aid said countries worldwide, especially the poorest, are now facing the greatest forced migration ever — one that will dwarf those displaced by World War II. |

Deforestation: The Hidden Cause Of Global Warming , by Daniel Howden ,
The Independent Countercurrents.org
The accelerating destruction of the rainforests that form a precious cooling band around the Earth's equator, is now being recognised as one of the main causes of climate change. Carbon emissions from deforestation far outstrip damage caused by planes and automobiles and factories.
The rampant slashing and burning of tropical forests is second only to the energy sector as a source of greenhouses gases according to report published today by the Oxford-based Global Canopy Programme, an alliance of leading rainforest scientists. |

The Hidden War For Oil , by Carl Bloice , Countercurrents.org
The US bombing of Somalia took place while the World Social Forum was underway in Kenya, three days before a large anti-war action in Washington on 27 January 2007.
Carl Bloice elucidates the failure or unwillingness of the Western media to accurately report the invasion and occupation of Somalia by a US backed Ethiopian government.
He asserts that behind the US-Ethiopian political alliance lies a strategic move to secure positioning in this oil region. |

Resource Wars: Can We Survive Them? , by Stephen Lendman ,
lendmanstephen@sbcglobal.net Countercurrents.org
This article addresses reckless living unmindful of the consequences. It's about endless wars and resources they're waged for. It's about gaining control of what we
can't do without, but must learn to, or we'll risk losing far more, including the planet's ability to sustain life. If we reach that point, it won't matter except to
resilient beetles and bacteria free at last from us. Instead of being an asset, superior human intelligence has us on the brink of our own self-destruction. |

Global Warming: It's About Energy Global warming is
an energy problem, and we cannot have both an increase in conventional fossil fuel use and a habitable planet.
Yet the United States is projected to consume 35 percent more oil, coal, and gas combined in 2030 than in 2004. , by Michael T. Klare, Foreign Policy in Focus, published in AlterNet: The Mix is the Message, EnviroHealth
We must devise a future energy path that will meet our basic (not profligate) energy needs and also rescue the climate while there's still time. The technology to do so is
potentially available to us, but only if we make the decision to develop it swiftly and on a very large scale. |

United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization report: Livestock generate 18 percent of world's global warming pollutants - more than transportation (Go vegetarian) , by H. Steinfeld, P. Gerber, T. Wassenaar, V. Castel, M. Rosales, C. de Haan ,
Livestock’s long shadow: environmental issues and options This report aims to assess the full impact of the livestock sector on environmental problems, along with potential technical and policy approaches to mitigation. The assessment is based on the most recent and complete data available, taking into account direct impacts, along with the impacts of feed crop agriculture required for livestock production.
The livestock sector emerges as one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. The findings of this report suggest that it should be a major policy focus when dealing with problems of land degradation, climate change and air pollution, water shortage and water pollution, and loss of biodiversity.
Livestock’s contribution to environmental problems is on a massive scale and its potential contribution to their solution is equally large. The impact is so significant that it needs to be addressed with urgency. Major reductions in impact could be achieved at reasonable cost.
